Visits

  1. Short-term visits
  2. Visits of up to one month
  3. Visits of more than one month
There are several procedures for welcoming foreign visitors, depending on the length of stay.

To find out if you need a visa, you can consult the website of the Ministry of Foreign and Europeans Affairs.

Short-term visits

This designation covers the majority of visits at IRMAR, whether for conferences, seminars, workshops, etc.

We will ask you to fill out some documents (accessible on this page (fr)). Please contact us at least 15 days before your visit, indicating the name of the person inviting you. Please specify if you want us to book you a hotel room or travel arrangements.

Visits of up to one month

The university of Rennes 1 has set up a simplified system for visits of one week to one month. The visitor must have a full-time position abroad. Accomodations and meals are covered by a per diem. This is a daily living allowance of
  • 120 euros for junior visitors (Ph. D. obtained in the last 10 years)
  • 160 euros for senior visitors (more than 10 years with a Ph. D.)
Transportation costs should be covered by other means.

An invitation request, containing a CV and a short project description, should be submitted by the local collaborator to the department secretary. Invitation requests are reviewed by a committee.

More detailed information is available on this page (fr).

Visits of more than one month

Visits lasting longer than one month involve obtaining a work permit and potentially (depending on the nationality of the visitor) a scientific visa. Thus the procedure (fr) must be prepared sufficiently in advanced of the planned visit.
